30 Goals: Meditation

Though I'm definitely not the expert on meditation, I do believe I have learned quite a bit in the past 7 months or so.

I'm not sure initially what kept drawing me toward meditation, if there were random people in my life that kept mentioning it, if it was Frankie from Grace and Frankie, or if it was just my surroundings and myself trying to say, "Hey! You need some time to yourself and a way to calm and relax your mind and body!" Or maybe the fascination has been there for many years that I have now finally started to delve into it and show up for myself. However it started, here I am now, meditating on a somewhat regular basis.

While watching youtube videos and online classes have significantly helped, Headspace (the app) has really gotten me comfortable with sitting down to meditate. There are many methods to meditating, but showing up is the main key--which can be the hardest part.

I'm not sure what exactly I expect to learn from meditating, but here's what I've acquired so far:
1. Show up. That's it. Show up for all of life. Show up for work, show up for friends and family. Show up for things that are important to you. The problem is we get lazy or are too scared to even start. Then when we do start, we have to start again, every day.
2. Even sitting in quiet and thinking about how you feel and how your body feels is a way to
slow down and give you the jump start or motivation to keep moving forward.
3. Meditation is not only for you, but for everyone around you.

Some quotes about meditation and life:
"We do not have to slow down to be mindful, simply to be present for each and every moment is enough."
"Our personality is not fixed. It constantly changes, as does everything else in life."
"A closed mind dwells on its own worries. An open mind lets go of worries to focus on those around us."

I definitely recommend anyone to try and find something that helps you reconnect or let things go for awhile.  It has been very refreshing and calming for me.
