Website

http://sarahfortener.wix.com/flyerswork I am linking this again to make it easier for anyone who visits to stop by my website and check out the deals! Going on until December 31st!!!  HINT** There will be a painting or illustration on sale every day this month, so look for the new daily special and if you see it, contact me to purchase!

Christmas Cards

They have begun! My plan is to make one Christmas card a day (starting December 1st) until the 12th, and then send all of them that Thursday or Friday.  And guess what! I am 2 for 2 so far!  Hoping this project will actually continue daily so I don't have to make 6 in one day.. haha.   Monday is productive so far.  I have finally jumped on board after a busy Thanksgiving week.  So look for pictures of lots of art to come in the next couple of weeks!

Some Errors

So as I was working on adjusting prices and updating pictures for tomorrow, I have run into some problems.  A lot of my photographs are in PDF format and cannot be uploaded onto my website. They are all on sale for $50 though!  Yeahhh

6 and 7 of 7

Didn't quite get to 7 posts before I will be posting the list.   So last minute things to know: I will post a list of the title, size, previous price, and discounted price here on my blog. I know that anyone looking at the list most likely won't be able to match the title to the artwork, but I thought a list would be a concise way of displaying what I have on sale. But along with the list, I will obviously changing the prices on my website:  sarahfortener.wix.com/flyerswork I will also be putting the corresponding numbers (1-58) from the list here to the matching pieces on the site.  Meaning, if you work backwards, or think in words instead of pictures, you can read all of the titles first and then go to the site. However it works for you! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me before tomorrow!

3 more days!!! not many updates to give...

4 of 7...sidetracked...

I had this great new idea today!  What if I painted/drew my own Christmas cards?!  I may just be adding to my pile of work, but I think I want to give it a shot.  So in the spirit of the 12 days of Christmas, I will paint 12 Christmas cards! Again, this will be first come, first serve!

To all of my college professors:  I hope you are not/will not be offended by the prices of the art pieces I will be selling.   I am trying to put my name out more, as well as getting rid of some artwork that has just been sitting around my house for a few years.  I am doing a fall/winter cleaning as I move out into a new apartment. I wanted to let you know that all I have learned at the University of Dayton has been amazing!  And all of you have shaped me into the artist I am today.  I am so thankful for that. :)

Remember this?   Well, since this is technically not on my "catalog," I'm posting it now.  This will be on sale for $15!!  Unless you feel the need to pay more.  Yes, I hand-carved it. Yes, I painted it. Yes, it did take a long time to make. And yes, I am selling it. If I don't sell it, I will be trying to donate it. It is roughly 5'6" H x 2' 6" W x 10" D. I will try to get some better pictures of it and post them later.

1 of 7

This is the first of 7 things to know before you decide you can/can not pick out artwork?  I have been thinking of some things that will probably be important for handfuls of you.  We will see if I actually get to 7 of them... For all of you who are out of town or out of the country:  YOU CAN STILL PARTICIPATE!  If you contact me saying you want to buy a piece, we can/will work out the details of getting that art to you!  So that being said, I hope more of you will pick out something!

November 7th

is the date I will be releasing the list of all the discounted items!  I chose this date because it is either right before a pay day or the week after.  So you can have time to set money aside or get paid the next day!  I have changed it up a bit. Most will be in the price range of $5-$50, but I will also bring some other ones down to $100.  They may or may not be some of the more popular items.  SO KEEP AN EYE OUT!  IT WILL BE FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. PLAN ON LETTING ME KNOW BY TEXT/CALL/EMAIL. I will still check facebook, but I probably won't really pay attention/remember.

BIG SALES!

BIG SALES TO COME!!  I'm discounting many (or what seems like many to me) of my pieces for Christmas this year! They will be priced $5-$50. Much more affordable don't you think? SO if you are having trouble thinking of gifts to get people, I am here to help! (hopefully) ALSO I'm still available for any commissions. Feel free to keep that in mind.

September Sketches

Making Art More Than A Hobby

Even though I have a degree in Fine Arts, and even though I am an artist, I don't work on art everyday.  I had this thought a long time ago that after college/after my degree, I would always be working on art somehow.  And drawing everyday would be a habit for me.   The real news: that doesn't happen.  With anything for that matter.  I have been stretching just about every night for the past 8 years or so.  But it hasn't happened EVERY NIGHT.  Though I may have habits, I have this thing called laziness.  So does everyone else.  Some days I am busier than others, and don't get to stretch.   What my point is: even professionals get bored and hate their work at some point.  I knew this before, but going through this whole experience brings it to a new light.   So how do I get myself to come back to it?  Living.  Being in new environments.  Friends.  Family.  Music.  Nature.  I find all my inspiration from the world around me.  If I didn't go out and visit it ever

Music Provides Unlimited Inspiration

Image
Mika, Scott and Brendo, Regina Spektor, and Tessa Rose Jackson I listened to music and just painted without thinking.  I'm really happy with what came out!  And maybe even these pieces can provide more inspiration for more pieces.

September Goal

To draw a character every day.   So far so good.   I will be posting pictures about halfway through September.

Painting a week

Image
I found these recently while going through some of my art stuff.  I made them my sophomore year of college for color and design class.  There seems to be a lot of color, but not a lot of time spent.   However, I still learned a bit from doing them and looking back at them I can pick up on other things.

How I Made a T-shirt Shark

Image
1.  Found an old blue shirt.   2. Turned it inside out. 3. Folded it hot dog style. 4. Cut the sleeve into a fin shape. (Save the scraps!) 5. Stapled sleeve and top part of shirt. 6. Stuffed the sleeve and finished stapling to the bottom of the shirt. 7.  Used sleeve scraps to act as "guard" in mouth to keep stuffing from falling out. 8. Stapled mouth  9. Stuffed the shark. Now it looks kinda like this. 10. Stapled tail. 11. Cut one sleeve scrap in half and used for side fins.  12.  Added googley eyes and sharpie for teeth and gills.  DONE!

Disney True Life Statements

Bittersweet and strange Finding you can change Learning you were wrong

It's a Beautiful World

Take life by the horns.  Go out there and just do it.  Don't let other people control your life.  Let them influence you, but only in a positive way.  Take things with a grain of salt.  Never be bored or tired of searching.  Life is searching and learning and striving for new opportunities.  Remember everyone is only pretending they know what to do.  You will figure out everything you are faced with in due time.  Everything happens for a reason.  Take advantage of the present that is given to you.  Be glad and happy that the past has happened.  Live with no regrets.  Wipe that dirt off your shoulders.  Everyone gets hurt sometimes.  But it's how we deal with it that matters.  So don't let life get you down.  Lift life up over your head and be strong.  Ignite that light inside you.  See it.  Believe it.  Share it with others. You are strong. You are unique. You are beautiful. Let the world see you.
