30 Goals: WInery and Distillery Tour

This goal was fairly easy considering there are many wineries, distilleries, breweries, and even meaderies popping up everywhere.  Because of this we have already done quite a few tours.

The first two we ended up going to were Camelot Cellars in Columbus, and Raleigh Rum Company in Raleigh.

Camelot Cellars was unique considering it wasn't actually that big. They have a small area to make a decent supply of wine, as well as a small working area for bottling and labeling. A cool tidbit to this winery is that they will let you go and make your own batch of wine and even make your own label for it!

Raleigh Rum Company was also a unique place to visit because they are located in a rented garage type space. Still a pretty small company, so they are mostly serving and distributing locally. As they grow, they are looking in to other state requirements to be able to ship their liquor.
They are only making rum for now, but did hire out another person to incorporate a family amaretto recipe. A really smooth and not too sweet amaretto, you could enjoy a small glass of it by itself. Needless to say we ended up buying a bottle to take home.
On the flip side, they also make a Carolina Reaper (one of the hottest peppers) rum. I chose not to taste this, but from watching others' expressions you barely needed a full sip to get the full burning effect.

Since then we have also visited Middle West Spirits, Brothers Drake, S and G Artisan Distillery in Yellow Springs, Wyandotte Winery, and Davis Valley Winery and Distillery. I could be missing a few, but we did cover quite a few in the span of a year or so.

I think visiting places like these, or even touring an unknown place will always be fun! Plus, the incentive to touring drink or food locations is that you get to sample the product as you go.

On a side note from this, Tim and I did receive a wine making kit this Christmas and will be testing our first wine in a couple of months or so!
